I'm going to pass on a bit of wisdom given to me here on BYC....
Careful what ya wish for!!! :lau
Right! I'm already a victim of chicken math... I don't need any more. My kids are desperate for chicks, and we have 2 boys though my bantam BBOE is w/ my ladies right now so they'd be a little smaller than normal though I'd prefer to have mixes w/ my leghorn. He's a turd so he's segregated right now. Maybe by next spring he'll fix his attitude. Ugh... teenagers.

I have a ton of Mut chickens and way too many teen roos... Just waiting for them to get a bit bigger then it's freezer camp..lol

I had considered that w/ Odin, but these are our first chickens and the kids are super attached to them (we'd expected all girls so there was no reason to tell them not to get too attached)... We ended up w 3 boys and gave 1 away. 2 1/2 months later I'm STILL hearing about how they miss Steve, and 3 1/2 months after one was killed I'm STILL hearing about how much they miss her.

Oh I understand..Lol I was explaining to my grandson that 2 of the 3 Tom's are for Thanksgiving at my mom's and he burst into tears and said "nanna can eat all the roos but not my turkeys"...He's 4 so I guess I'm currently stuck with 3 Tom's and 1 hen..

She's beautiful!

I agree! I have 4 of them and the most I've gotten in 1 day is 3, but for some reason both my blue eggers stopped laying, then one started back up, but most days I'm luck

Sooo pretty! I think some of these ladies are trophy chickens and think they're too pretty to produce. That tiny egg is adorable. Are you going to keep it? I have a giant egg in my fridge right now, it'd def a double yolk, but I'm hoping it has 3, it's reallllly big! And I just realized something. Is it possible that when a hen/pullet lays a double yolk that they not lay the next day b/c they don't have a yolk that is ready? If so it may explain some of my ladies and their intermittent laying.

Thanks for the compliment on my blue girl. I'll eventually crack open that tiny egg, to see if there is any sign of yolk in it, but I assume its just white.

And I do believe hens will skip a day when they lay a double yolk, but if they skipped the day before, they could be caught up! lol Guess you could write it on your calendar.

How exciting! I kinda can't wait til mine start doing the broody thing, but then I have ZERO space for new birds, AND don't want any more cockerels. I guess we'll see what happens when it happens.

Lisa beat me to it -- careful what ya wish for! I had over 30 broodies this year alone. Some 2 or 3 rounds!! :th

Go bantams. More birds in less space. :D Whereabouts in NE OH are you? I'm north western WV, not far from Marietta OH!
