So I think my ladies are winding down for the fall/ winter. I had their front window blocked w/ a thick mat to keep the wind out, but replaced in on Monday night w/ a piece of plexiglass so now hopefully they'll have more actual daylight in the coop, but Monday I only had 6 eggs, plus 1 that they ate. Yesterday I had only 5 eggs. So if they stop laying, their combs become lighter, right? Then in the spring they'll get red again when they start laying?

Could be any time now.. one of my standard EE didn't lay until about 23 weeks, though I'm not sure how shortened days may affect her.

They're over 26 weeks now, and STILL NO FREAKIN' EGG!!

I did see a horrific case of rape this morning, my rooster climbed on top of my bantam cochin, dug his claws in, and started flapping around and biting the back of her head with his beak!!! She was screaming and clucking like she really wasn't enjoying it. Is this chicken sex? (what the hell?!) Does this mean my egg is finally coming? I can't believe roosters do all that nonsense, just so they can touch buttholes or whatever it is they do. Ewwww!!! Horny males, they're just like humans, lol! (sorry guys I'm just playin') :)

Hey now! That's all they pretty much do is touch buttholes got to do something to spice it up. I for the life of me don't know why they just don't back into each other .
