(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am certainly not new to chickens. Our oldest girls are about 6 years old. We ordered chickens about 6 and half years ago through an online catalog. Since, we rescued a rooster and eventually we've raised a few of our own chicks.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Right now we have 4 hens that are 6 years old, a Rooster and a hen that are 2 years old that we hatched from our own hens, a duck who is 2 years old we bought from a local feed store, and 6 hens that are about 6-9 months old

(3) What breeds do you have? Some of the breeds we have are Australop, Barred Rock, Silkies, Orphington, Maran/Welsummer rooster, Isbar hen and rooster.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I love to watch the chickens roam the yard. I also really love being treated by them and how sweet they are for the kids to handle.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I are currently located on the East Coast about 45 mins from the City of Philadelipia, however he just received a job offer in the midwest of North Dakota. We are wondering if anyone has traveled that far with chickens, or if they have any suggestions for such things. Also, we're looking to move towards Carrington ND and Fesseden ND, does anyone know the regulations on chickens there? I have searched high and low on the internet without success.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
A friend of mine recently traveled with her flock of 4 LF Cochins from NY to TX. She set up the coop and run in TX before she drove them down. They made the trip well and everyone seems happy.

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us :ya

My neighbor recently brought her birds from California to TN. They traveled in dog crates with wood chips on the floor. They made frequent stops to give them water and fresh air. They all made it just fine.
