i'm SO ashamed!!!

We fortunately don't have to go quite that drastic. We know a local farmer who has a lot of chickens. THough she says she's only getting a couple of dozen eggs a day. We went on Sunday to get our CHristmas eggs. UHOH! None in the egg fridge! Just so happens she was mucking stalls when we got there and went and found us.........2 dozen!!! woooo! and they were still warm! Sooo excited!

I am going to make Quiche for a brunch on the 26th. I am getting a few eggs and don't want to waste my eggs on people who won't appreciate them. I do feel guilty about those poor hens that have to live in cages for their whole lives, though. I had put the free range eggs in my cart, but when I figured how much I was going to spend for the cartload [of groceries] I put them back and got the regular ones....I should have put my money where my mouth was....

(I will admit that I actually have quite a few quail eggs on hand. I just don't want to use them up in baking. Then what would I do if I suddenly craved an omelet? No way on EARTH I'm eating an omelet made with store bought eggs...)

I feel for all of you buying eggs:(. My girls just started laying before winter set in. I have 4 doz in the frige. Think I will have Moose sausage and eggs for breakfast

i didn't buy the "free range" ones at the store, i guess cuz i didn't believe the label. i've heard that they find ways to lie. like maybe the chickens may not be in a cage 24/7......but that they have a run full of dirt/mud and then they can say "cage free". what do you guys think? are the yolks orange like they should be with true free range girls? i should've bought some just to see.

Never thought I would get this obsessed about where my eggs came from. Our first hens started laying a while ago (we have 4 wyandottes) and now this past week they have given me 3 a day:weee. I texted my DH I was so excited. Crack those babies open and they are orange yolks. Yum! I have to get me some more hens. Yesterday, one layed an egg with spots on it. My DH has to listen to all the details of the eggs I bring in. Yesterday he said that the rooster must be envious so he decided to lay an egg too, that's why it has spots. The only problem we have is trying to get them in the house before they are frozen. Love my chickens!!
