I don’t remember ever getting a booster. I remember one vaccination with one circular scar that lasted for years before finally fading away. You’re saying you needed boosters every so often because of travel?

Boosters if high risk of exposure and/or if countries required it for entry. It wasn’t eradicated in Africa until 1977 or so. In the US it was gone by about 1950.
