I remember a lot of boxes back in the eighties had cut outs for easy handing and the stores would save them for you if asked them to and there were good for movingLarger stores had incinerators and many cardboard boxes were burned.
Wow, your post just rounded out a wonderful image! I only had to add one more "little" detail to send me down the rabbit hole. Our local mill was family owned and run. "The Boys," steeped in hard work and wearing tattered flannels with the sleeves torn out, were a teenaged girl's dream!Especially when they were milling the sweet feed! The NO SMOKING signs were everywhere. Grain dust in the cobwebs and rough sawn lumber. Ol' Zeke would walk you around and show you the milling process without the fear of having your lawyer on speed dial.
You were too cool for these I assume? And the forever line of grease and holes in the pant cuff from being stuck in the bicycle chain. Yup. I ruined a few "nice" pairs of pants that way.
And air for your tires was free, too. Nowadays, it costs anywhere from 25 cents to a dollar-fifty to use one of those gauged air pumps ... when and if you can find one!I remember when water was free and now a lot of places charge for water.
Edit for typo
Absolutely! Only the "prissy-kids" moms insisted on those ... and that's a good thing, 'cause I'd have lost 'em for sure! You were too cool for these I assume?

Air is still free, you just have to use a hand pump like those of us in the country did.And air for your tires was free, too. Nowadays, it costs anywhere from 25 cents to a dollar-fifty to use one of those gauged air pumps ... when and if you can find one!
Yep! There's one "living" in the back of my vehicle, along with a pencil gauge that I actually know how to use!Air is still free, you just have to use a hand pump like those of us in the country did.
