I'm so old I Remember when:

I can’t imagine our local food chain closing out so I doubt Rouses would either. It’s interesting how each section of the country has its own line of grocery stores. In New England it’s Shaw’s (the oldest grocery store in that area), down in Florida it’s Publix, Middle Eastern states (Ohio, Kentucky, etc) it’s Kroger, north middle states (Michigan, Wisconsin) it’s Meijer, and here it’s Martins/Giant. Those are just the ones I’m familiar with :).
We have Meijer here in Ohio too. And Giant Eagle and Marc's

Thank you! I’m sure everyone will enjoy them :)!
Has Rouses ever switched to self checkout? Last time I was there (three years ago) you could only go to a cashier (not that I mind, just wondering).
Rouses is pretty old school (and I Love it.) I go to several and have not seen a self checkout.

In the little town 8 miles from us, there was a Piggly Wiggly which changed to Charlie's Country Market. We have a ton of Piggly Wiggly's though in WI, the closest would be Waupaca or Green Bay, both about 35 miles. We pretty much only shop at Charlie's though, but we do have an Aldi's and Walmart Supercenter.

I blame crocs as the beginning of the end.
I did walk in Lowes late one day with my chicken/gardening boots on.

Almost closing time, well switch had quit. Grabbed my purse and DH and I took off. Looked down as we walked in the store.

Yep chicken boots! :gig
Of course I saw lots of folks I know.
