Dollar General wasn't ever like the Everything is $1 stores. Or not that I ever remember. That makes sense, but did their products really only cost a dollar once upon a time? Or was it always just a phrase?
Ours does have a $1 isle though.

Heck, growing up we had Five and Dime stores! That makes sense, but did their products really only cost a dollar once upon a time? Or was it always just a phrase?
It is because of inflation. So, everything didn't just cost a dollar, but at one time most everything in a dollar store was a dollar or less for the most part. They also used to have five and dime stores. They have went away. I say went away, but there is actually still one in Tuscaloosa that I went in last year. There is nothing in it that still cost a nickel or a dime only, but they kept the name. The dollar stores have just kept the name. Why do things cost more than a dollar at dollar stores?
Always enjoyed shopping those places as a kid.Heck, growing up we had Five and Dime stores!
I remember buying a toy car in a five and dime. It was a 1957 Ranchero made out of rubber with metal axles and rubber tires. It was about three inches long. I remember being proud of that little car. That was probably in 58 or so.Always enjoyed shopping those places as a kid.
