Best way to prevent car theft! Kids have no idea how to drive a manual.

Even better would be a non-synchronized clutch.

A friend had one (old IH?) back in the 80s, when there were a lot of car jackings in Detroit. She said she had fantasies of going there, someone trying to steal her car. She told us, "I'd hand them the keys and go stand on the sidewalk and watch them try to drive away."

I need someone with a manual to teach me. We have no manuals at all.

I'm on the lookout for a 2004 Volvo S40 T5, 6-spd, all wheel drive for those long commutes.

I don’t know that there were automatic transmissions when I learned to drive.
My Dad made me learn how to double clutch aka double de-clutch. I don’t think it was actually necessary by the time I was old enough to drive.

I've only had to double clutch on the 18 wheeler when traveling with the spouse back in the day. Always have had - and hope to always have in the future - a manual transmission vehicle... unless I ever get me a pickup then I will consider an automatic.

I remember long lines to get gas, and only being able to buy it on odd or even days, depending on license plate. We were 121WLM, so we could only buy gas on odd numbered days.

And I even remember the license plate!!!

I had commercial tags, fill the truck anytime, then come home and siphon it off for Mom, Dad and Sister's car.

Thinking of all the moms who used to send their kids to the store to buy milk and bread (or later on cigarettes, but we can leave that one off) imagine how full the jails would be.

At three yrs old (1953) I was picked up on the South St Bridge in Philly at dusk by a woman who took me to the local precinct. Got to wear a cop hat and given a Lollipop. Got sprung by Mom and Dad and it was over, at 10 I was found by Mom 4 miles away catching frogs with a friend. Got a good ass whippin' 'cause I missed a piano lesson. The good news, NO MORE PIANO LESSONS or practice. YAAAAY! I was always a roamer.

When I started if you couldn't drive a "stick" you didn't drive, even the majority of girls knew how to drive a manual trans.
