I'm so old I Remember when:

Anyone remember the knife sharpener man who used to walk the streets with his contraption and you could run out to the street with all the knives and scissors that needed sharpening? We used to stand and watch him work the wheel. I don't recall money being exchanged so he must have provided the service for free.....?

And all the parents on the block or within hearing distance of your mother calling for supper or time to come home was broadcasted far and away and someone (who you always knew) two blocks away would inform you that it was time to go home as your mother was calling.
When the streetlights came on it was time

I remember when ALL stores were closed on Sunday, even gas stations. You had to gas up on Saturday or wait until Monday.
The only public places opened on Sunday were the malls/shopping centers where everyone would do their walking during winter months when it was cold and snowy.
