I'm so old I Remember when:

I never worried much about "coolness" when I was a kid. I didn't mind looking uncool, being uncool. I was one of the social outcasts, so there wasn't much I could do to raise my cool factor, no matter what I did.
Some people think I'm cool because I look tall and happen to know a lot about tech.

Other times they're shocked because I don't play video games despite having the hardware to.

Happy 44th birthday MTV.

By golly you're right, it is the hostess that gives you the menus.

We don't drink, though - not alcohol, anyway. I often ask for decaf and an ice water and DH drinks iced tea, lemonade or Dr Pepper.
Coffee and tea still add nicely to the bill total

Yes! It was cool to be uncool! :yesss:
At least, that was what I told myself, lol. 🙄
I was never one of the "cool" kids, either. I was always just on the outskirts of the cliques ... but I was in The Band. We were our own crazy, nerdy, tight-knit family. Years later, I was paid the ultimate compliment at a class reunion. One of the "Beautiful Girls" gave me a genuine smile and said, "I remember you. You were one of the 'Nice' kids." Barring the sticky "I love you" hugs from my children, it's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. I've carried that with me for years!

A lot of the "cool" kids actually came to a bad end. Some of the girls didn't graduate bc they got "in a family way" before graduation. One boy totaled his car, drinking and driving. He survived and no one was hurt. Some ended up in jail. But, stuff like that. It was not always cool to be cool.
