Hahahaha!!!! The chick would probably be perfectly happy with the boob nest though! It was either that or boob egg turned into boob chick, and I did not want that.

Fortunately, Sarah Jane is a gentle and docile hen. She lets me stroke her, hand feed her and handle her chicks without a fuss, plus she adopted the shipped chicks without hesitation!Good Job Dona!
Now how to get that chick back with mama?
Read a great story about a similar situation, keeper picked up 1 broody chick, then put down 2 mama had no clue. Of course that requires a 'tame' mama that will let you handle her chicks without going too bonkers.
steal one of mom:s to put with her so she isnt aloneSo glad you had a happy ending! I went through almost the same thing earlier this month! Mine also survived but Mama wouldn't take it back. It's all alone in our garage under a light.View attachment 1887071

I can't find a heating pad, the egg is actively hatching, so I literally put the egg on warm damp paper towels in a Christmas box and shoved it into a car. It's hot today, but not unbearably so, and a car with the windows rolled down is hot but not horrible.
So that's the plan for now. I stuck a thermometer next to the box so I can monitor the temperature.
Shell off, hobbles on, a few sips of nutri drench given. View attachment 1884686
