Impaction gone, now not eating as much

OK, well that may be fortuitous then. If you need any further info or support on how to go about it, please feel free to ask. There are You Tube tutorial videos on how to do a necropsy on a chicken, but don't feel you have to go the whole 9 yards. I don't have a lot of time to spend on them so I concentrate on examining the areas where I suspect the problems occurred.... in your case the crop and gizzard would be my main focus, but if you feel comfortable enough to check the mouth throat and oesophagus too, it may be important. I would expect your girl to be quite emaciated with very little breast muscle and no fat, as that is common in impacted crop cases where they have not been getting enough nutrients through their system for some time and were effectively starving despite having plenty of food available. It is quite a cruel affliction in that respect.... starving, plentiful food available but not be able to eat it.

So-o-o-o very sorry...you did what you could to help her. Life is fragile, even for a chicken. Losses are just a part of chicken keeping that we humans have to go through. The fact that you tried to help her, tells me you cared for as a pet too. I am the same way; my chickens are part of my family.

God's blessings to you during this sad time. :hugs
