"In Memory of 911"

I was standing at the door with my suit case in hand heading for the airport that morning. The phone rang, a relative called... Ahh..Turn on your TV.. I turned it on watching the first tower smoking... I set down my bag and watched in horror.. What happened? Just as the second plane flew into the second tower... Realizing it was terrorism.. The odd rush of triumph and tragedy intermingled into one emotion as news of the third plane going down in the field instead of making it to the Pentagon came in.....( A special thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice by choice in order to save others..)

I had many friends and acquaintance in the air that day, along with friends in NY city. They day was spent tracking them down being sure all were OK. Phone in one ear eyes on the news

This day will not be forgotten!

Nor shall I forgive those leaders who cultivate hate and fear in their populations, so they may have more innocent souls to sacrifice in the never ending Jihad .

Their are no winners in holy wars. Only losers... The death of the innocent on all sides.

May the crimes of the guilty be served justice.

May we as the people of the this planet unite to silence those that cultivate fear and hate for their own selfish gain...

Peace

With 309 Member online right now, i am very surprised and disappointed not to see this thread bigger. I though it would be 20 pages long by now. This is a very important date in American history, and most BYC ers are American. I had the thought of the fallen and the firefighters and the brave men and woman fighting for out country in my mind all day.

I won't forget that day.

I went into work as usual at 7 am. At that time I worked for a civilian company located on an air force base here in MA. Most divisions of that company worked for the military, I worked for the sole group associated with the FAA. Sept 11, 2001 happened to be the first day of our program review. People had barely settled down for that review when many pagers went off. That cooincided with the first plane hitting the north tower. When the pagers went off again it was apparent this was no accident. The base was locked down at that point and we were not allowed to leave.

All civilians were eventually evacuated 3 hours later. We weren't allowed to return to work for a couple of days. When we did it was facing M-16s.

I would like to say this. I wish to praise ATC for their actions that day. Grounding every US flight, halting international traffic, it's a Herculean effort. They managed to accomplish the impossible in a very short time. I remember watching the movie loop of the aircraft beacons a year later. I'm still amazed at how quickly they ATC was able to ground every flight in the US. I know ATC has their problems but that day they excelled.

A co-worker of my husband (and a private pilot) happened to be traveling that day too. He left Manchester NH on his way to Atlana GA. He remembers to this day seeing the smoke plume over Manhattan.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

I am another who will say I will never forget that day.
