Incubating and discouraged

Not a great weekend for quails here. The coon got 2 of my 8 adults last night. Pulled them right through the mesh :( no evidence except blood and feathers.
Hubby is going to put taller guards on today so they stay out of reaching level at night.
Down to 4 hens and two Roos.
No pips yet. Today is day 16.

I guess the upside is they were not actually able to get into the aviary. Just did their damage from the outside.
I was secretly hoping urban raccoons would be more interested in garbage than birds but that is obviously not the case :barnie

They will be back so maybe you can set a trap?

Still nothing on Day 18. Maybe I’ll try to float them tonight and make sure no one is home. Then I’ll pick a few to crack open and see if I can learn anything.
I reinforced my aviary by giving it a skirt along the bottom foot so nothing can reach in and grab them. Everyone has been safe since (knock on wood).
I’ve also ordered an egg turner motor that will run much much slower. I’ll hand turn until it shows up. Could be a while as I had to order from the states.
My neighbor offered to replace the eggs. She’s been hatching chicks so a good amount of them should be fertile.
So I’ll double check my thermometers and hydrometer and let this baby run a few days and we’ll try again!

I floated and most of them were bobbing high. I cracked about a third of them. They all just look like dried up yolks with or without what looks like mould maybe?
I’m not totally sure but it looks like they got scrambled or a membrane broke or something.
