There is a few things you can do if you want, it’s called fumigation. But many commercial hatcheries use formaldehyde which I don’t have nor do I want to use such a chemical.
Another site suggested hydrogen peroxide dip. I did that for one hatch - I got 18 out of 20 developed but 2 died in shell I couldn’t help them one was deformed.
Then I was at the tractor supply store I found this stuff called...
Manna Pro
All Natural Egg Cleanser
You can use it on eating eggs and hatching eggs, directions on the back, it’s very simple, I think I dipped them. I used that on the last hatch I had and I got 93% hatch rate. 38 live chicks out of 41 developed eggs. 2 deformed.
I like to avoid chemicals in my garden, on or around my animals, and when I feed my family. So this solution seemed like a good alternative.
You let them dry after you use the solution then you place them in the Turner.
I also let the set the eggs upside down in a cool place in a quail egg carton for a couple days if they are super fresh until I collect all the eggs I need to hatch. But there are sometimes I don’t set them that long, like last time and I still got a high hatch rate.
So while I think it helps the air sac I don’t think it’s always necessary. I do think putting eggs in water to see if they float or sink before incubating and allowing the floaters a few min to sink helps hydrate the egg and gave me a higher hatch rate.
There is like 4 videos 1-4 on YouTube about getting your eggs ready. I think if you search that you will find it straight away. The videos helped me but then I also did not follow his directions exactly I used some of my own knowledge and did it how I felt was best for me and it did work great.
Ok I hope this helps.
