Incubating and discouraged

Thanks guys, I’ll pull him and bathe, as long as no one else is hatching.
Ok no visible signs of hatching so #3 got a bath. There was quite a bit of gunk. I think I got the majority off. His belly is quite big and squishy so your probably right that he’s got some resting to do @Sara L
I’ll leave him be till I get home from work this evening and see if things improve. Hopefully we’ll have a few more hatches by then as well. I hope I didn’t hinder anyone else by all this in and out of the bator this morning.

Aww, is he super dark almost black? Should be a Tibetan or dark brown. :) I'm trying to breed Tibetan tuxedos with white eyebrows. They are beautiful but don't like their pictures taken.

Dark brown :) all my birds are pharaoh atm. I want to order some mixed colours but I love the tuxedos!
I examined the goo in the shell. I was mistaken, it was not yolk, just yellowy egg snot lol. I’m guessing there was not enough evaporated out of this particular egg. It was quite glossy so maybe less porous?

The hen that lays the glossy eggs has white flight feathers so I was thinking she might have a bit of a tuxedo gene in her, i incubated 3 of her eggs this batch, 2 of those have hatched and they look pretty typical pharaoh so far.

Playing with the genetics is fun. Sometimes colors hide for a few generations.
I am trying to get a red pharoah, the feather striping is the exact same except the base is more of a red instead of brown. I don't have any red males so put a regular pharoah over a red hen and got a few red pharoahs. But they have all been female, so I'm not sure if it's sex linked or if it's just chance. Going to put an unrelated regular pharoah over the red pharoahs and see what I get. Also been trying to breed a red male, will see if I get any reds this hatch.

Very cool! I need to learn more about genetics so i can start breeding with more purpose.

I think size might be a little easier to achieve than color, still learning though. I have been trying to only set bigger eggs, and the think it does make a difference. The newer birds I hatched seem much larger and their eggs are bigger for the most part than the birds I started with from eggs from an outside source.

That’s interesting, all my eggs are pretty uniform so far. But I kept the biggest roo in the hopes that would help.
