Incubating in my bra: An experiment.

Don't worry so much about lock down. I keep my eggs in the turning until they hatch, and it has actually IMPROVED my hatch rate. I also haven't gotten a single one to pip on the wrong end since I started doing it.

Although I wouldn't be worried about lockdown, I would be worried about how the egg is going to hatch, leaving egg shell pieces inside of your bra.

OUCH!

So far so good.
I have decided to name the first egg Abe, and the second egg Bibi.
Abe has been in my bra for 5 days. I'm not sure, but I think I see an eye and a beak!
Bibi has been incubating for 3 days, and I can see a big dark blob, probably the blood circle.

A few days ago I lined my bra with grey shipping foam and some old wool felt. So now the eggs are nestled under my boobs, with a "blanket" of felt, then foam, then my bra. And of course, a cotton shirt, then a sweater or shirt over that. This keeps them from catching any sort of draft at all, and adds a bit more physical protection, especially when I'm sleeping.

I am able to sleep on my side very comfortably, and the foam keeps the eggs from shifting when I do sleep. So far I've braved only one shower and I had my partner keep the egg in his armpit while I did so. He rolled his eyes but was otherwise a good sport about it. I have found a small styrofoam cooler, and will work that into something I can park the eggs into while I shower.

The flashlight I am using to candle the eggs isn't high enough power to see any major details. I am considering purchasing a real candling set up. We'll see.

I stumbled across this thread and have to say it is a very interesting idea. I have had to keep small chicks in my bra before to keep them warm when their hatch mates out grew the need for warmth. Letting them cool long enough to take a shower shouldn't be a problem as long as they are in a safe spot. My broody leaves the nest once a day to eat for 20-30 minutes, it would be about the same time as a shower. A bath however would take too long. In the name of science this is not weird, better then the poor person that found out that bread mold can save your life.

Oh this is great I had one of my younger boys read it to me
It was so

I'm so worried the eggs are going to break. I break them accidentally carrying them inside from the coop.
Good luck, will be checking often to see how things are progressing.
P.s I hope hubby doesn't want to be romantic for 21 more days lol.

I have a candler that came with my incubator that isn't very good a LED flashlight worked better.

LOVE IT!!! I'd have never thought to incubate an egg under my boobs. Then again, an egg wouldn't fit...a quail egg would probably be too big...let alone a chicken egg!!!

I cannot wait to see how this turns out! Got my fingers crossed for you...I sure do hope you have success!!!
