Today I am seriously learning how to candle.
I have also started an excel sheet to track my progress, and have done some reading about humidity and other incubation topics. I have ordered "'A guide to better hatching" by Janet Stromberg, and am reading the thread "Body Hatching" with great interest. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/715926/body-hatching/20
Edited to add this post in that thread has some good info for anyone who wants to try this https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/715926/body-hatching/40#post_9852844
The first photo here is the egg I put in my bra on the 16th. I had candled it before, and it wasn't as dark as it is now, so maybe someone's in there? But I see there's some checking on the shell, which isn't optimum. And it makes it harder to see what might be going on inside.

Realizing that the first egg might not make it all the way through to hatch made me think "Oh, hey! Maybe I should try a second egg!"
Well, that and the fact that I'm clearly a bit eggcentric. LOL.
Anyhow, this egg was still warm when I gathered it today, and it has a smoother shell than it's slightly older sibling. So, in the interest of science, I tucked it into my bra right away.

The temps here are hoovering in the low 40's, and our heating system isn't very good, so I am concerned about drafts. I may work up some kind of wool sling for the eggs to give them a bit more protection from the elements than my nylon and elastic bra alone.
And yes, sourland, I did need a project. LOL.
