Well, I have officially decided a read back is not going to happen at this point. Was trying to catch up from the weekend and then craziness ensued at work so yeah. I do have some updates. Candled eggs in the bator last night and put 30 giant cochin and 8 EE eggs in lockdown. Temps must have been a tad high because I had a few internal pips already. That was pretty cool to see for the first time but tells me I should have locked down earlier?? The broody managed to hatch 1 of the eggs she had but unfortunately it wasn't the best arrangement and Shaggy (my rooster killed it). I'm kinda torn as to how to approach that one. I think he will either be processed or sold this weekend. He is my only of age rooster at the moment but at the same time he is mean towards people and now he has the label of a chick killer as well. I feel like in a sense it's my fault for not having proper accommodations but was hoping for the hatch with the flock to be accepted approach. Opinions on that appreciated. Hope everyone is doing well and sorry I've been out for a bit. Life gets busy at times.
Morning. If he's mean towards people I'd eat him.
so long as you are gentle when you turn them upside down you should be fineOops, no, I forgot that! I shouldn't've trusted my memory when I decided to hatch - the last time I hatched was 2 yrs. ago! Time to research .... will get some pics as soon as it gets dark.
Thank you!
Yeah, I could feel the heat, so I had to candle the eggs quickly. Is it OK that they will be upside down when I candle them? That doesn't sound like it's good for them.
Mornin'! Cute little bird!

How are you this morning?Morning Chaos.
He might back down from you but he probably wouldn't from your kids. That was my thoughts also. He only got me once when I wasn't prepared. Only comes from the rear with a surprise attack. If you square up to him he backs down. He has charged a few times but as long as you manage to get turned around before he gets to you he will stop a few feet short and give a stare down and then go on about his business.
