look who decided to hatch while I was at work at 1:41am on my birthday! His name is Little Leo.

Hmmm And hmmm really

Put it back the same way and turn on. Hmmm

Now I have done it without turning off however I do not recommend that to anyone.
Definitely not recommended for most people. Occasionally for electricians it is necessary to work on circuits hot. But we're trained to do so as safely as possible and to use the proper personal protective equipment. All of our electrical panels had to be audited to determine the amount of potential arc danger. They all had a label with the safe working distance.

You need 2 pair of gloves. A voltage rated rubber glove covered by leather gloves to protect the rubber from abrasion or puncture.

Ok that hurt. Worst I've had was 220. Stupid mistake I won't make again.
I never attempt to work on anything without testing with a wiggy first. At work, the first thing I'd do to get ready for work was to test the wiggy on a live circuit. Then during the day, before working on something, I'd check it with the wiggy and then test the wiggy again on a known live circuit to insure it was still functioning before starting any work.

A buddy was checking voltage on motor relays in a large electrical panel. Rather than check each relay in a door, step out and check those inside the next door, he reached in to check the ones in the adjacent space. Luckily he wasn't working alone. His head touched a hot relay and he got stuck there by the 480 volts. The other electrician killed power. Had the other guy panicked and tried to pull Larry off, they both would have been electrocuted. My friend spent 3 days in the hospital.

I know that but they are in a pile and I m afraid that they will get to hOT or snatched
If they're not too hot during the day, they should be OK at night unless you don't have enough ventilation. How would they get snatched? If they aren't locked in a well ventilated coop at night, they can easily be snatched. The chickens can't see a predator coming.

I raised up a flock of roosters that would squabble during the day a bit but at night, they'd sleep in a big pile on the feed bins even as adults.

Hi All,

Thank you for taking a look at my message.

I'm looking to purchase a new incubator. I just had a couple of questions in regards to some of the incubators I've been looking at: -How should the eggs sit in the incubator? (vertical or horizontal) -How much should the eggs turn, is rocking back and forth once every 2 hours enough? -We are after a larger incubator (24 eggs) do you have any suggestions of incubators that aren't too expensive (around the $100-$200 mark)? Eggs sit upright in the one I was looking a buy below.

Thank you,

Jason

That one has an auto turner. It should be fine for turning the proper amount.
It is Chinese made. I've been tempted to get some of those. Not sure how reliable the controls are. They usually are adjustable so you can verify temperature with a known accurate thermometer and then adjust the offset accordingly.

Not for a few more days. This was the only egg out of the batch that we set on the 25th that made it past day 14. The others were either Yolkers or blood ring (8 total, 5 blood rings, 2 Yolkers, and 1 survived) we have some babies that a family member hatched for us before we got our bator but they are about 12 weeks old.

So you have a lone chick? Or is it a staggered hatch?

i guess you would call it a staggering hatch but there was about a week that went by that we didn't get any eggs because they were shedding feathers. The next batch was put in on the 9th. But we will keep this baby well occupied with some from our family that just hatched some a few days ago.
