If for any reason no other silkies hatch - I have 10 other babies (EE, BA, BO, NHR, ranging in age from 15 days to 20 days. I have 2 silkie babies that are several months old. Can I take one or two of the smallest other babies and put them in with this baby?
I think I understand your dilemma. You're thinking if no other silkies hatch, it'll be all alone... so you may want to provide it some company. I would be sad for it to be lonely. But... there is a big difference in the developmental stage of a newborn and a week old chick. It would be hard to guarantee the safety of the silkie, since the older chick would be far more active and much stronger. Not saying it would attack the little one, but it may inadvertently injure it while doing what 2-3 week old chicks do. Let's hope for hatch mates so things will be more balanced.

400
these were set yesterday afternoon Christmas Day. 5 assorted silkies and 12 silver spitzhauben 3 of which were severely damaged and sealed with wax. Jan 15 hatch date

:clap nice assortment, I hope the damaged ones are OK. :fl

Wow, Sorry - I hate asking all these questions. I used an egg carton, cut holes in the bottom of each cup. But these are TINY silkie eggs. It's trying to hatch - if it was out on the ground, I think it would have popped the shell open, but since she's in the carton, it's like a barrier. Do I take the egg out of the carton? Should I have cut more off of the carton?

Thanks!

What are your thoughts on this egg?

depends on what day it is
This is a picture of mine taken a few minutes ago (day 14). Shining the light down through the air cell, you should see something like this on the more "open" side:

It's normal for one side of the egg to be darker than the other.

Yes it is... the dark is the Chick!(I am pretty sure)
O guess what everyone

I might be able to have a small barrier between the two, but all the chicks I have together pile on top of each other. Would it be more stressful to be separated by a small screen from the others? I'm hoping for more to hatch - there were 12 viable eggs (I think) that went in. I'm only on day 21, so I believe there will be others.
