Boy they do zip quick, the orange is the one I saved this morning (Nancy), the light grey is is the one in the pic above, I am going to call her Bluebell, and the dark grey I will call Jessie. she is from the light blue egg in the above pic. the other eggs should hatch tomorrow. I have these guys in a basket, in the same brooder as the older chicks. this way they can talk but not get beat up.
SALLY SUNSHINE,that's one of these eggs I can see a pip.

Everybody get hand and boot warmers like I did! My power out eggs I wasn't really going to hold my breath for 2 more hatched last night I only have these 4 eggs left and they all have a pip. So 4 in pip.10 hatched total so far. 17 were set, and mom has the other 3 due on Sat. when she clears her hatch, hopefully 100%
Wow that's excellent!! Go babies, go!

Countdown until Thursday (Day 21) is on, candled this morning and had a couple small air cells and a couple that looked nice and big. Anything I can do to help out the small air cells at this point? (or assist on hatch day?)
Cliff, if no one has responded, I'd go with what the majority of them look like. Sally might differ in opinion, but I'd hatch the small air cell eggs upright in a carton and leave the big air cell eggs flat with the dip facing up.
Got my eggs ready for lock down. While I was drawing the line, saw something for the first time since I started hatching yrs. ago! The head and the beak! Soo cute, got one with a couple of toes showing too, they look fluffy. They should be! :) Click on the photos to see it better, that little one even open and closed it's beak while I was watching. Pretty cool for me, being a first.
Cynthia, incredibly cool, beyond awesome to do that candling and see that lil chick dancing in there.

Okay - it's eggtopsy time. Eggs 1 & 3 were moving at day 18 but had stopped moving by Day 21. Egg 2 was moving until this morning - Day 23. The problem is obvious - they've failed to absorb their yolks. What might've caused this? I bought the eggs at an auction so I can't comment on the stock quality. Could it have been something wrong with the incubation process?

GreenRunner: I see Sally already posted her "diagnosing failure" chart. The resources she has compiled are truly amazing. I agree, it could have been low temp, high humidity, or nutrition or genetic defect. Wishing you the best on your next go round. Be sure you have your thermometers and hygrometer calibrated. Have you checked bator for warm/cold spots?

The nest side.

The hen side.

This is a fun challenge. No eggs have been harmed in this process. I can't say the same for my last LG experience. I'm pretty determined to get this working like an incubator with lots of recycling of materials. I spent money on a timer, thermostat, a few Mylar thermal blankets (which I only needed part of one so the rest are still my emergency stash), and thermometers/hygrometers.
I have boxes full of little bits and pieces set aside for next bator build. Good winter project!!

I think you may have too much opening around the top, I would cover some give it a test run and see what humidity and temps do.

SALLY SUNSHINE,that's one of these eggs I can see a pip.

what is? I am confused sorry you see an internal pip in that egg image? did you lock them down if you saw an internal pip I hope? I didnt read you had an internal pip? or an external? I am soooo confused!!

No,SALLY its not mine sorry for the confusion.I woke up this morning, and again my incubator was like 80 something degrees.:'(

does anyone use the notes besides me? I mean the individuals notes? if not I will do them by hand for myself? and just do the links/posts part at the top, and link them to an article post before the main post closes. that way we always know where to go for them. not sure when that edit will close on the OP

These are the same "power outage" incubator eggs. 2 pips, and a black one hatching and the brown is the rescue chick from earlier, put in incubator to encourage the hatch. the little black one was supposed to hatch tomorrow. 7 so far...in my staggered hatch.
Cute!!!!!
Pretty... My chick is out- green egg below grey chick is zipping too the 3 other RIR were fridge eggs, so they are Tuesday hatchers I bet.
How long can eggs be refrigerated before they are no longer viable to use??? I have never done that with mine. But I am willing to try!!!
