That's exactly what happened to me. I wanted silkies too but then I discovered that Ameraucanas come in a silkie feathered variety and they aren't mixed. Now I'm planning on getting some of those eggs.

Got the generator back up about 10 hrs after our went down. I slept with a chick most of the night. My husband said I'm a better hen than him, I guess cleavage gives an upper hand as far as warmth for chicks. Dunno about the eggs, they got down to 65 before the generator was fixed, about 5 min before loading then into the car. A total of 5 trees were down on the property. 3 that are leaning pretty bad, will be coming down next wind storm. I know why our power is out up here: in one stretch of road within 1 mile there were 4 trees in the power lines, and then on one of the highways there was a half mile stretch where all powerlines were down on the ground. Fun times...
I hear ya...our area really got hammered. I would've slept with that chick too :) We were told that it would be at least a week before we should expect power due to all the damage to the power lines/poles. I'll say a little prayer for your eggs, hope they're ok

Can't tell what kind of surface this one has, and the description doesn't say, but if it's not something that bedding would adhere to, I might just lean in the direction of this one. My thought is that if it's something like hard rubber you could put it in a frame high enough to contain some bedding but low enough that the little ones can get over it easily. The temp shouldn't be enough to create an ignition problem.
I had considered using a heat pad, but decided against it and went with a Sweeter Heater instead. I believe it gets up to 185F, which isn't hot enough to ignite tissue paper, much less pine shavings. I can put my hand on the heat plate for quite awhile before it becomes too dis-comfortable...

So a day or two ago I posted saying I had a dead egg with a blood line. I am not 100% positive but I am pretty sure that egg just hatched!
I got two little guys out (a day early) and a couple pips so 4/10 in terms of movement so far! Yay, the wait continues!
Did you notice if there was a star in the East?
'Tis the season, after all.
