So that one popped out of the egg while I was taking kiddo to school

Of all the rest of the eggs, only 2 of 10 haven't pipped that I can see....

Of course the first to pip hasn't done much except yell, hasn't been 24 hrs yet, but going to wait because still active and still yelling loud! Also I candled the other eggs last night... only 4 of 7 Lakenvelders developing (day 7) and one of the developers is questionable as to if it is still going or if it quit. Then of the 12 swedish flower hens 9 of 12 developing (day 4). And yes, I candled them in the turner @Sally Sunshine

Of course the SFH were only in transit 1 day from Portland to here thankfully, so I am sure that has a lot to do with the luck with those. Now I am officially on a hatching ban until we get rid of some chicks LOL!

She sets on them all night idk what's her problem.she set on the ping pong balls 24/7 for a week so I new foreshore she was bloody.

Once I've run some eggs through my new incubators I'd like to give a try to some BCMs. I certainly wouldn't mind having some darker eggs in the mix, and surplus males taste good no matter what they look like. But I want to get a baseline established first with "easy" eggs from my flock.

Yesterday I got the all clear to start phasing out production reds as long as I can breed/hatch good laying birds. I have three of last spring's babies contributing to the pool now, and more are getting ready. This will eliminate the need to deplete and restock our 150+ layers every 18 months and lose all our egg production.

humidity is so high here . I ran dry all spring and summer . my humidity in spring stayed around 40 to 50 %. as summer heat kicked in it went up 50 to 60 %. hatch rates on my BCMs dropped to less than fifty percent . while My EEs went up .while my EEs would pip on the 19th day and hatch on the 20th. day BCMs always piped on day 20 or 21. . and like the dummy I am I sold most of the spring hatch .like you I can't wait till egg production comes back to try the GQFs out on them . first batch I plan to hold at 40% see what happens . Its strange not having turners rocking . after doing it so much this year .

Ur-ur... bite your fingers.

There are so many windows in this, I can't figure out which one to fling open first... but Mrs. Sally would kill me for it

Maybe she got used to the ping pong balls, and when you swapped for real eggs she knew it was something different and gave up. Women are just like that. Just when you think you are doing the right thing, she gets mad, hops off the nest, and says it's your fault

Yeah!! Congrats.. and good luck with the rest.

I'd love to see a statistic on how many first pippers actually hatch first. I know I've had the 2nd pipper complete the hatch first on multiple occasions.
