I,was wondering if I can hatch eggs in a to at that I'm using as a brooder
I don't think so, CH. It's hard enough to keep the humidity and temperature right in an incubator. A tote doesn't have enough insulation to keep the right temp or humidity. I wish it would work, because I know you're having trouble keeping your hen on the eggs. Don't worry, there will be more eggs. When you get the incubator back, that's when you should think about hatching more eggs. K?

Well under the heat lamp in the toat box it stay between 99 and 102
That is a good temperature, but the problem is going to be humidity. You will have to put a tray of water in the tote, and then put a lid on the tote to keep the humidity inside. When you put the lid on the tote, the temperature is going to go up. Way up. If you try to open the lid so the temperature will go down, you will lose your humidity. Some people make an incubator out of coolers, because they have a lot of insulation in them that helps keep a steady temperature. They also use a thermostat to control the heat. Small vents in the cooler allow fresh air in, and they also use hygrometers to tell how much humidity is in the cooler. I don't know anyone that has tried to use a tote and a heat lamp to make an incubator. I wish it would work, but I don't think it will. I'm sure other people will tell you the same thing.

here is the deal yes the heat lamp keeps it at 99 to 102. but it's surface heat .you would need to turn the eggs as soon as the top side reaches 100 degrees and that would mean standing right with the eggs all the time 24/7. . humidity is so important to a good hatch you would need to regulate the humidity in room the tote is in . some where between 40 and 55% . for three weeks . you must do this . while it is doable it is not practical . or not so smart . three weeks without sleep more or less chained to eggs doesn't sound like much fun me . UR is right there will be more eggs .more than one person has built an incubator check out the DIY incubators on the BYC.
