I don't think the bones will be an issue. My dog loves to clean up all the chicken poop! She also loves to give wet sloppy doggy kisses.

I'll set all of them. Have one now that might be fertile, 'cause they are mating now. Did you know that peafowl make a noise right before they mate? Heard it a couple of time last week, and same them do "it" on Saturday, so maybe I'll start getting some fertile eggs now.

It will take a 2 or 3 days from the first mating for fertile eggs to come.

I loved it when our dog gave my wife and daughter kisses - after it had eaten its own feces.
I figure that's what you get for letting a dog kiss you.

Yes, my pup has a bionic tongue...she is a licker. HUNDREDS of kisses every day. Only time she stayed away from me for a while was when I was chopping VERY hot peppers and she got close before I could stop her! she was VERY cautious around me after that.

My Incuview arrived! I can't wait to play with it and get it up and running! Just in time, too, because I saw my new tom mating with my Sweetgrass hen, so I think she might start to lay eggs soon.

In the meantime, I am running a practice batch of chicken eggs in a styrofoam cooler-bator I made over the weekend. (I didn't want to run a test hatch in the Incuview, and then have it occupied when the turkey eggs are ready.) Plus I was kind of curious to see if I could make a diy that really works, so I just did it.
Good news Finnie!!!! what you set and when you due? I will add you to the list!!! Good Luck !! pics of your bator, its all finished>????

OMG where was this gif when I needed it!!

@casportpony my wry neck chick died. Not sure if I over fed her or if she got too cold last night. I'm leaning toward the over feeding, because she didn't move herself closer to the heat like she has been.
oh campin I am so sorry!!! Mine is doing great

she over fed?
guess I need to update that post now
Looks like my hatch is just about over. I still have 1 egg that's pipped and making noise in the bator but that's all that's left. I did a quick candle to all the others before pulling them and doing eggtopsies. Looks like 13 quitters. 4 about halfway, the rest, full term. I'm assuming they were too weak from the temp drop in the bator to actualy hatch. Most didn't even pip. If this last one hatches fine, I'll have 17 poults from the 30 eggs
13 quitters, dang temp!!

how long she on them? you marked the eggs?
I personally have not touched the eggs other than feeling underneath each hen once. It took the blue a little while to find the ones she wanted to keep, and to figure things out. She first kicked out a few - we got rid of those) then she kicked out all the eggs, but immediately sat on them in the dirt. We put them back in her box and she hopped in and sat on them again. The next day, my mom swapped them out for new eggs, since she wasn't sure if the others would have survived. That was 7 days ago and she has been really good with them since. The white hen went broody 2 days ago, there are only 2 eggs underneath her. I didn't mark any of the eggs. Should I?

Can I slip more eggs under the hen with the eggs she's been on for 2 days?
I am not sure what to tell you a day would be ok but two may be pushing it

I can't keep up with this thread, but I'm back!

I took a little break after my last hatch to let the chicks grow out a bit (brooding pens were getting full). I have 12 chicks left in the brooder, and they'll be moving out in a couple of weeks, so....its time to fire the incubators back up! I ordered 4 emu eggs

I've never hatched emu before, so this should be interesting! Anyone here raise emu, any tips?

light to turn on in the bator to view eggs without opening or using a flashlight to peak in when in lockdown or to just peak in at temps
Quote: I would love the 3" they didnt have them when I was at cabelas dont really need one though. so I wont get it. I am not big on the big purse thing, actually use my checkwallet than walk using a purse, it would be nice to ditch the purse if I had something to carry on my person alot smaller
