You're average broody (without human intervention) will usually have a hatch rate of under 50%. With artificial incubation human hands (because we have oils in our skin) will remove the protective covering from an egg with constant handling. No protective covering means bad stuff gets in and kills your eggs.

By average broody I mean something like a wild chicken or bird. Not one that we keep safe while sitting on the nest, that we provide food and water for.
