you may be able to get by with a regular bulb but you're aiming for about 95 degrees first week under your light/ heat source. Then raise or adjust your light weekly to drop your brooder temp under the light 5 degrees week by week until they're feathered out at 5+ weeks. You'll get plenty of different opinions on bulb color (red or clear) or using no bulbs at all (like me- I use a brooder heater plate that they go under like a momma hen)...whatever you use, your chicks will let you know if they are comfortable. They will huddle under the light and peep loudly if cold, scatter away from the light and may pant if too hot.
