Aw, geez... Silly chickens. They'll get there eventually. :hugs Thanks! You have a great evening as well!!! It's an elevated platform with roosts on it. When I first moved them outside and they were still quite little, I had to teach them to go up to it before it got too dark to see - they hadn't really experienced anything like that in the brooder. I was worried that the boys were disoriented by the move and forgot, but they were good. Here's the platform with roosts in a different one with the same design:
Oh okay. I've never taught any of my groups to roost. Eventually they figure it out on there own. Even my EHAL babies have it figured out for the most part. Some still sleep on the floor but the rest of them roost anywhere from 4-7ft up.

Wow! Never seen a set up like that! No wonder you have to help them out. Like a awesome urban apartment! Pretty cool. I never had problems with roosting until I got silkies, some of them still don't. I was just happy when I finally got them to get out of the rain and snow...

Oh, the littles have a ramp - this one is for some adults who had no problem trying to roost in trees, so I didn't bother giving THEM a ramp.

I have a group of adult Naked Necks that insist on sleeping in a pile in the bedding in the open air part of the coop, and only go up into the (nice big) enclosed hen house to lay eggs (and otherwise ignore the roosts). Drives me crazy, because although the coop is all locked up, they end up being "out" in the weather if the rain or wind blows sideways (not uncommon), they are a bit more vulnerable to burrowing predators if one gets through the hardware cloth for some reason, and I can't manage their poop (including checking it to see if anyone's sick) with regular under-roost cleaning like all the others. Not to mention their rooster crows earlier in the morning. I may try to get them to roost again, but they are stubborn for some reason...

its a bit early, probably still absorbing yolk sac.
if it is not bleeding, dont mess with it, let it be and watch it for signs of bleeding.
if it starts to bleed, you could try dabbing a bit of corn starch on it and place it in a small cup until it fully absorbs..

It should be ok right? I didn't help it out or anything, it hatched on its own. It should absorb right? Does this happen often? Did I do something wrong?

Five days ago, she did not even touch the top of that plastic box! Now, I have to make her laydown to put the lid on! Yes, there is a hole cut out in the lid!

if it hatched on its own and was early, your temperatures may have been a bit high during incubation.

it should absorb on its own, and yes it does happen fairly frequently in my experience especially if they pip early
