Runawaylobster, I just now saw you are from Homestead!!!

My husband is stationed at Ft Bragg attached to Special Forces and their HQ for intel into South America is on Homestead Air Base. Over the past 4 years my husband was stationed down there once for 9 months and a second time for 6 months. Since it was TDY we weren't allowed to go with, but we went down to visit and stay with him quite a few times. It's about a 13 hour drive from where we are in NC.

The first time they put him up in the condos behind Publix right off NE 8th St/Campbell drive by the turnpike (I think exit 4? I don't know, I know it's the one right before the outlets/ Walmart on Rte 1). The second time he was in condos on the same street but further down right across from the hospital. You have great weather for keeping chickens there. We'll probably move further south once my husband retires.

Now you have me craving a key lime milkshake from Robert is Here, a roasted vegetable & goat cheese pizza from Portofino, and a glass of coconut wine from Schnebly's vineyard!!!!

Yep.... robert is here is my favorite place to go. The air base was huge but after Hurricane Andrew they shrank it down alot. I live way west in the redlands, but actually i do shop at that publix you describe..

Personally i'm thinking of leaving when i get to retirement age, (still a bit to go there.. ) my area is the only rural area around Miami and it's sort of surrounded by other stuff, either suburbs, everglades or downtown. I like NC alot actually but maybe a bit too cold in the winter there for me though.. i'm thinking more tallahassee or something..

I'm surprised you go no yellow chicks, i had a 50/50 ratio of yellow and black on the olive eggers.

PS: if we get sea level rise going on we are all going to have to move LOL!!!

Have you ever been to Schnebly winery??? I believe that is in Redland. We came across it by accident, and had a great time. It's an outdoor vineyard that always seems to have events going on, but they make all their wines without grapes. We did a tasting thing there. My favorite was the coconut!

I know what you mean about it being mostly city. I was surprised how looking at a map it looks like it's right on the water, but you have to drive a ways to get to the beach. I do LOVE the weather though. And it's pretty awesome to be right on the Keys!

By the way LOVING the chicks I hatched from your eggs!!!

Ozexpat-- Love the animals!!!!

........  Uh oh.  I have recently "met" a little Polish pullet and I see you also have Polish.  This is despite my saying I would never want Polish chickens.  All anybody needs to do is encounter a Polish pullet in person and WHAM! you want one of your own.   <*sigh*>

Story of my life.

I love the first Water buffalo ?
Its ok i wasnt into cats but my fav was the bob cat so when i found a domestic breed that looks like them i did fall for them

I came here intending to ask for help, but then I remembered how you rubbish you guys were last time I was trying to resist hatching!
I currently have my first batch from my own chickens, hatching as I type.....
But that means that tomorrow my incubator will be empty.......
And in my egg basket I have some really pretty green eggs that I have not tried hatching from yet - my cockerels are welsummer and Marans so these green eggs should produce lovely dark olive eggers!! Please, help me resist........

Resist the temptation not to hatch!!

Think of the lovely eggs they will produce.

Think of all the roosters that you can make adobo out of.

You owe it to the world to refill those incubators.

There are starving children everywhere (mom used that one to make us eat lunch)
