Incubators Anonymous

Be careful. That's how I got the rep as a "chicken expert." Now I think I'm on their speed dial when they need fertile eggs or have incubator issues. I even helped the preschool write a grant to purchase an incubator. I noticed my ph# was taped to side of the incubator.

Oh boy... I have kids in 2 different schools and next year when my son hits preschool I will have kids in 3 different schools. That's a LOT of phone calls! Now I have to weigh whether it's worth it LOL

Thank you

Got a JN 8-48 bator and the **** temp cal. Was off 5.5 degrees F on the factory setting. Anyone ever had one this far off?

I had one about that off. It was in my homemade styrobator. I got one of those cheap walmart temp/humidity gauges. Unfortunately I didn't find out it was off that much until about a week after a VERY disappointing hatch. 2/26 survived. I count myself lucky that I had any hatch at all.

Hi! I'm not sure if I'm an incubator "addict" or not, although I do have 9 (blue, black, splash) Marans in the brooder, 1 Cream Legbar & 1 Light Brahma in another brooder, 12+ Lemon Blue Cochin eggs & 12+ Blue Partridge Brahma eggs in the 'bator right now. Oh & I also have 12+ Jubilee Orpington eggs coming this week.

I've got it dialed in now and it's holding great. Humidity is very easy to keep. I was getting a little nervous. I've got eggs due every day next week and I needed this one to be the hatcher. I've got half a dz pure breed leg horns and some Cochin x leg horns coming as well. Anyone know what the cross will look like?

That's a good start, you have a ways to go to be a full fledged addict.

LOl...soooo true! I was teacher on my school site that hatched in the classroom. I got one other teacher on board last year and quickly became the "chicken lady"...LOL. Now if anyone needs help, info, knows of a chicken in distress anywhere in the county...I get a text! Not even close to an expert....just have my experience as I go in hatching and raising chickens! That is how I started with keeping chickens....hatched a bantam I just couldn't part with and the rest is history..LOL . It is such a rewarding experience for students to see chicks go through development and hatching. The responsibility of caring for them and understanding how to be gentle with animals is a great lesson for my preschool kiddos!
