Indian Runner Ducks mating

Well, they do have quite a lot of sand laying around, I guess there's enough calcium there as well, at least until they start laying. If the first egg I see will have thin shell, I'll add the oyster shells.

I have seen one duck mating today. It laid flat on the water surface and one of the drakes did the job. It means they are maturing. It's getting colder and autumn is kicking in. Now that they are mating, does it mean eggs are also on the way this season, or can they start earlier. Do they even mate during the winter months? If I'd have to guess, they have quite some time before the winter (snow, sub freezing temperatures on regular basis), at least one full month, maybe more.

They will be 19 weeks old in a few days.
The strange thing is, she offered herself to the black drake that hardly got the tail feathers a few weeks ago. Much more dominant drake with large tail feathers ended up watching (he did grab her head in the end but they finished before he even noticed what's happening). The black drake is quite fat and poor little duck sunk completely under his weight. Luckily it doesn't take long,... :)

I noticed they do it in the morning after I feed them, so I can take an eye on them. Today, the same duck mated with the larger drake. This time it lasted a bit longer and she could take her head out of the water from time to time. :)

Thanks for posting the videos! Today I noticed my drake doing that same little dance as your black duck in the 1st video( right at the beginning of the video) and I thought he was sneezing!! :lauI have never seen my drake do this before so I kept saying bless you!! Oh boy, I learn something new every day here on BYC!!!
