Indian Runner Ducks mating

After some more spying into their bedroom, I have noticed all 3 ladies are highly active.

One likes the black drake and him only. Once, the other drake saw her laying flat first and humped her instantly. She went straight to the black drake afterwards and asked him again. :D
The second one likes the mallard-colored drake and doesn't fancy the black drake.
The third one likes them both. I have seen her flirting with both. Now, I don't know if she changed her mind at some point, or she just isn't that picky.:lau

They do it all the time! I even saw them mate during the night when I woke them up in the middle of the night. Drakes are acting OK. I assume they are not heavily influenced by hormones yet, but so far, they don't pick on the same hen at the same time. If one mounts her first, the other one watches and never tries to mount her as well. The black one needs glasses, one of the hens that fancies him is often following him around and offering herself readily. Before he can turn towards her, there's usually the other male already mounting her. He often gets his second chance. And possibly third :lau

I don't think I am imagining that. It happened several times already. She flirted with the black drake, when the other one rushed in, she stopped and swam away only to return to the black one a few seconds later. And when the black male mounted her, a minute after the mallard-like drake did, she happily left the pond and laid down under tall grass. She runs away from the other drake and follows the black gentleman everywhere.

Oh, and I have to admit, the black drake that was once neglected and missed feathers and had bumble feet is now really nice looking drake. He is overweight, but he has zero issues walking (some of you might remember he had leg issues as well, some related to obesity and some to nutrient deficiency - he ate everything when I got him, because they were not fed enough where I got them). His head is much rounder than the other drake's head, I sometimes ask myself if it's perhaps a mix and not pure breed runner.

Fabulous creatures! :lau

The one on top likes the black drake. The middle, black drake - he has somewhat stronger bill, shorter and it's not going as straight from his forehead as with Indians. He walks just like he should as an Indian Runner. It's just a bit atypical, I guess. :)

I also suspected that could be the case. Well, I was sold all the ducks as Indian Runner ducks, so I assumed they were. I'll open another topic with more photos of the ducks. Let's keep this one about mating.

cheers
