Indian Runner Ducks

Molly's tail is n a shadow- so its a little hard to see- but I was looking to see if there was any curl in the tail feathers which would indicate a male- but Daisy I can tell from here colouring that she is definitely female. What do their voices sound like? Is Daisy much louder than Molly? If they have different voices then that too could indicate that Molly is actually a male.

My indian runner is unknown gender still. It did loose its voice for a few days, so I thought it might be male, but still no tail curl yet? But it is molting like hell so soon I'll know. I hope!
We originally thought it was female because it has decided to "mother" these two bantam chickens. It never lets them out of it sight and if I pick one of em up it comes up to me to make sure I don't go anywhere with it! lol
It also makes a good guard duck for the chickens (we have nosey friendly dogs- who just wants to give them licks and sniffs lol)
And its always honking if it sees me coming down the garden to their pen with lettuce and grapes!
For now we call it "Ducky" but maybe its a Jemima puddle duck or a Donald duck ? ? ?

Its hard to tell ain't it ! ? ! ?

That would be the little ducky dance. It is mating behavior. Doesn't matter if they are both girls or not. My 3 did this and now my 2 still do it. I keep an eye on them if they get too rambunctious and pin one under what I think is a bit too long and then I push the top one off, but they typically just do quick spurts of ducky dance.

I think you have a Mister Duck in the bunch!! I too get a little worried when I see someone's head under water..but it is mating...or if you have two males (eww) then it is domination~as in who is going to lead the flock..as far as I know. Since this was posted awhile back..did you get some eggs out of this or was it two males getting friendly?

Hello, thanks for your post.... yes they both lay eggs, so seem to be both female. Its been almost 2 years since I got them and they are so much fun. Molly (the dark one) is a lot louder than Daisy (the white one) but they are so lovely to have. The chicken/duck run is 8x3 m but as often as I am home I let them run in the 800 sm backyard. Had to fence in all herbs and veggies. I use a childrens bath/sand shell for the ducks and they have so much fun to go in diving spreading their wings geting out and the interaction is that they play with each other and still one may sit on top of the other and push them under water but they change this position. I would like to think they are just having so much fun.

I have a question about Runners. There is someone selling full grown Runner ducks (about 1-2 yrs old) on Craigslist. I'm curious if they are good layers? They have Runner, Rouen, and Runner-Rouen cross. Would they be worth $5 each?

Hi this is interesting to me being a new Indian Runner duck owner. Is it general practice to let them roam the garden?? Also, will they return to their house/coop at a certain like chickens? Any advise it greatly appreciated.

I took a real good look today and I don't see any curled up feathers, so maybe ducks?? Also mine are not very vocal even with the chickens messing with them. When will they make noise???
