INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm more then likely going to go to the poultry show in Lebanon if anyone needs a ride and wants to carpool I'd be willing to pick them up possibly split the gas if need be

First goose egg has pipped! Now I am back to peering into the bator like a newbie all over, LOL!

Got the Peas all set with straw today in their crates. All of them are doing well and none were overly stressed by me reaching in to spread their bedding.

Took some pics but most are staying to the back of the crates and I've kept the tops tarped to prevent the flying up hitting the tops!

I have started gathering treats, like shrimp tails and bread crusts to work on hand feeding. We'll see how that goes over. ;)

Also another question I know if there are hens around Roos will fight or try to establish dominance but if there are no hens will they?
Fighting is more an individual and breed thing. Some breeds and/or individuals will fight even if there isn't much of a reason and they have more girls than they could ever want. Some won't fight no matter how few girls are around and how much they have to share. I've heard fighting is lessened by having no hens, but I've never had a "fighter".

The worst fights I've had here were hen-on-hen fights. Poor Saphira's face was bloodied up again today.

Doesn't seem to matter how much lovies the girls are getting from me today; they've just been absolute hogs for attention, and the boy's not doing his manly duties (even though he's looking much better--almost completely normal now!). Vermithrax has either just started laying or will be VERY shortly. She's been scoping out probable nests and really giving them the once over. I hauled out the big dog crate, put woodchips and PDZ in it, threw in a bunch of feathers and some twigs, and some Easter eggs and two little pullet eggs for good measure, then put a tarp and a whole bunch of yard debris (limbs and corn husks) all over and around it... and they're finally looking into the idea seriously. Going to have to get some golf balls to let the ladies know where to put those one-egg-omelets from now on. Most of my hens (turkeys and chickens both) had to subtly move the eggs around and try sitting on them.

**PS: Yes, Vermi's laying!

Quote: I keep finding reasons to go all the way back downstairs into the porch, just to peer in there. Full well knowing it's several hours before they zip out! Doh..... This has been such an odd year for goose eggs.
Quote: Congrats! My turkey hens squabble at times too. One hen is miss bossy, she is always scolding someone, or chasing a rooster. The boys mostly get along, I have the BBBs that seem to be bickering a lot now tho. thats ok, thanksgiving is a month away!
