INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Our chickens somewhere along the line started eating my duck eggs and have now moved on to eating their own eggs if I don't get them often. So I personally would not
feed them raw egg.
Give your birds oyster shell to strengthen the eggs. If you find a single culprit turn her into dinner. Egg eating can be a hard habit to break and it will stink if your whole flock takes up the habit.

Snow is really coming down hard. I think we have around 4 inches or more already. We are even under a level 1 emergency here. Roads are very slick. Schools are delayed 2 hours. I bet if it keeps it up like it is now they will be closed. Everyone be safe! I think we are getting more snow today then we have had all year.

I left work at 7 tonight and the roads are horrible. Had to go 20mph the whole 20 miles to my house. There was one hill that I honestly didnt think I was going to make it to the top! On a positive note, the dogs are having a blast in it! Every time I get up, they go running to the door to be let out.

I haven't been out since putting the chickens to bed around 5:30. Cars are going pretty slow, sooo windy. The storm windows in the old house are shaking. Hope the chickens don't mind staying in the coop tomorrow. I got another shell less egg today. Its only from a certain hen. I don't think she is eating the PDZ like the rest. She's going to be a good roast soon though. She's so mean!

My flock didnt go out at all today. But if its not snowing tomorrow then im sure they will go out. They dont mind the cold its the wind they dont like.

Snowing here too!

My birds are so funny about snow. When the door opens in the morning they all charge to it and when they see snow on the logs, the first one in line stops and there is a 6 chicken pile-up on that interstate

Just found this Indiana thread. Happy to be a member of BYC, we bought our first chickens ever (8) last Friday. 4 pullets, NHR and amber links, and 4 straight run. 2 each of SLW and leghorn. After reading thru some of this thread, I'm now worried that some of the pullets won't be girls. We want between 4 and 6 hens, and no rooster unless he's well behaved.

Building a pallet coop, the 4 x 8 base is on the posts already, but no sides up yet. 3 stall laying beds are made, ready to put on when the walls are done. Amazing how many pallets are out there for the taking! Dpn't know why anyone would buy the cheaply made things, unless they just can't build something.

How young is too young to feed the chicks anything but the starter feed? I found a fly that hibernated, only to become chick feed this morning. How funny that was watching them play keep away with each other when the fly got cornered lol.

My wife and I would like to meet someone in the Indy area to see a working coop, to make sure we are on the right track. We live just south of Speedway, near the 8 Second Saloon.

Mine do the same thing. LOL Except i have alot more chickens in my pile up. Then they push and shove to get out. LOL

I got my first 6 from the hatchery but not straight run. They were supposed to be pullets and, happily, they were!

You'll have to post some photos of your coop building project!
