INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Just picked some peaches from my tree. I hadn't checked on all of the fruit trees in awhile and there's a lot of peaches. The pears and apples aren't quite ready yet, but that doesn't stop my dog from eating them.

Update on Lola:
She's getting much better. She walks more and more each day.

Update on chick with injured foot:
I tried wrapping the foot yesterday, but it's hard to do on a tiny foot. Any ideas?
Our peach tree is loaded, nice and juicy !!!

Strange how creatures find us, isn't it? We were at Petco shopping for food for our herd of varying creatures, and some guy came up to us with a 5 gal bucket of koi and asked us if we would take them home. I had the strangest look on my face, and said "how did you know we had a pond?" The guy said "you mean you don't work here?"

So--we took the whole bucket of them home, put them in the pond, and the rest is history.

All of our 8 chickens have names, and we know from the beginning that they're part of our family, rather than livestock.

Goes along with the Blind dog, handicapped bird, orphan mallard, stray cats, and foster Chihuahua that seem to call our place home. How does this happen?

Love the pictures !! What doesn't find you finds me !!!! We are now up to 7 dogs and 5 cats, most are rescues.

Well something new laid an egg today. It was in the crate the two ducks sleep in (a Pekin which based on its behavior I'm pretty sure it's a boy) and a female khaki Campbell. They are 17 1/2 wks old though isn't that pretty early? It's a medium sized off white egg. Has speckles on one end. Almost looks moldy but it wasn't there yesterday so it's not old. My chickens are the same age and are all brown egg layers... Must be the duck! I picked the biggest ones at rural king maybe they are older than I thought!

Peacefulwalls I love your ducks they are beautiful!
Thank you!

Still-Air Incubator

for $50. Since it is the end of the season, you might be able to get 10 or 20 off.

Brad, is that incubator any good?

It doesn't have an automatic turner or fan, but neither does the momma quail. She just kinda churns them around every so often.

John
hmmmm.... I also have a 10% off TSC coupon from the back of the State Fair booklet...

It takes time to get temps correct originally but I found once you get set and put in an area with stable room temps, it does just fine. I used a LG to hatch my first quail eggs I ordered. Then I bought my cabinet bator but still hatch in the LG. I out a fan in mine to even out the temps though. If I were planning on hatching a lot, I'd invest in a little better incubator, but for the money i have no issues with the LG especially when you can get it for $35 in the spring from TSC.

Godiva is doing good today, no soft eggs. Everyone seems to be getting along alright too. Blueberry and Gus are content to sleep next to each other finally.
The 9 girls and 2 boys settling in for the evening.
Also more proof that the Australorp is brown, the Minorca is black and then the two RIR's. Big difference LOL!

I have had no problem with my cheap basic incubator I got from RK for $42.99. I let a friend use my incubator in town-more details (dont know if some of the details mean anything or not but bator worked just fine and they had an 84% hatch rate) they had it in an upstairs room ina shelf insdie their closet. I have used it in my bedroom a lot it is just in on a table, room on ground floor. I have had no trouble nor did my friend maintaning temp or humidity. I use dry incubation and sometimes would like my humidity a tad lower during the first 18 days, Have no trouble getting it to go up. For the cheapest large incubator I could find it works great!
