Interesting...Are you engouraging my 'chicken math'?I'm getting some chicks from the hatchery next week. I'll be listing the extras on CL.
I think there will be adult chickens for sale at the show this Saturday.

Is anybody participating in the Tour do Coops this coming weekend in Indy?
I have no idea what is is
It's an open house of sorts, where you get a map and go view peoples' coops in the city. Most of them are in the Broad Ripple Area. We went last year for the first time, and found it interesting.

*Introduction*
Just wanted to say hello!
I'm on the near east side of Indianapolis. My husband and I bought a house just a couple months ago, and a good friend gifted us Partridge Cochin bantam chicks as a housewarming surprise. We've busted our asses trying to get a coop built, but it's been difficult. We've sourced out much of our wood for free and my husband(thank goodness) is a woodworker! It's been slow going and I just want to bring my birds home. I find myself drooling and gawking other birds on a daily basis(someone help me!), but my flock will be full when I bring these home. Do any of you go to any Indiana swaps? It seems Craigslist is full of Roos and the same type of birds over and over.![]()
I made a promise to myself about not purchasing straight runs, so as to prevent me getting stuck with too many Roos. I'm not against eating, but really? How satisfying can a Cochin bantam be??? Anyways...
Feel free to send me a PM, I'll try to post photos of the coop and flock soon...or eventually...I can't make any promises.![]()
Ps, I'm also obsessing over Cayuga ducks.
YAY! Keep up the good work. How many pullets do you have now?
Welcome! Can't wait to see the coop and flock. We've been working on our coop for what feels like forever!
It was quite a productive weekend for us! DH got our nesting boxes completed. Figured it was about time as the girls are starting to lay. Now the only thing left on the coop is siding! So close to being 100% done with it. It will be so nice to not stare at plywood anymore.
Exterior hinged top boxes so I don't have to crawl into the coop for the eggs anymore!
I didn't get a photo of it, but we divided the box into 6 smaller boxes with small 1/4 in plywood pieces. Do you think it will bother them that the food and water is so close? I can move it closer to the center of the coop if I need to.
I also found out sneaky little layer this weekend. Turns out it's Savannah, our Welsummer. I just love the dark brown spots on her eggs. Without fail, each day while we were working on the boxes she would show up in the coop and I would make DH stop the power tools until she was done. Didn't want to freak her out the first few times she was actually laying her egg where she's supposed to. We've gotten 4 eggs in 5 days from her. So proud of my little girl.
