INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Here's our Barred Rock, Bang Bang. Just hanging out with us...

She's looking pretty good so far...

That is an awesome picture. Now I want a barred rock.

I got a little closer to finishing my coop before winter today. Welcome to my hot dog stand, lol. That's what it looks like This side was completely open all summer. There is still fencing in over the coop area. I made it so I can close it up for winter and open it up again next summer.

Finished closing in the wall on the nest box side.

This side (left) that goes into the run was wide open all summer too. Now just a door. The near side opens up (3 boards) for access to the feeder and waterer and the bottom bottom board opens down to slide the poop tray out.

I still have some more to do before winter but I got a lot done today. Also, I met SallyInIndiana today!

Ok, non chicken question.

I have netflix. I originally signed up for the free month. I'd keep it for a while then cancel due to the lack of movies on it. They send me another email several months later giving me another free month. I sign back up and then cancel after a few months. Well I'm about to cancel again and considering going with redbox instant. Anyone have this? Is the movie selection any better?

I think I'm about the only person my age who doesn't have satellite or cable tv. I'm just too cheap for satellite (only thing I can get). So I just have the Farmer 5 (abc, NBC, CBS, PBS, and fox which is now like 15 channels since digital over the air came about) and have a Roku. Just curious if redbox instant is worth it (even though they emailed me a free month trial as well I just hate giving debit card number if I don't have to). What about Hulu plus?
We have the netflix for the children's movies, they can navigate the movie area there easily enough. And the TV shows play back to back with just a slight pause ~ no picking the next one from a list.
We have Amazon Prime for the shipping but Mr Rogers is on there. My children like MR rogers but no instant play or playlists. I used to have lots of playlists on youtube but they got lost when you tube and yahoo and google started merging account infos.
Red box stands or drive by and pick up for a $1 a day don't have a great selection for us. Not sure about online. Hula plus is good for TV shows. We don't have cable or satellite either. Most times I can find a TV show available the next day on different instant free watch sites but you need some good security to use those kinds of sites or a junk computer just for watching the TV shows. I can't stand commercials so I won't even watch free TV very often. Then so many shows now are not just one story per episode but end with a cliff hanger every time. It is better for my attention span to wait until the end of the season and watch them in more of a marathon style.

Brad did you get the eggs?

CCCCCCCChickens I tried reading more on the breed thread for the AMERAUCANA chickens. But I got really uninterested fast. lots of feeling on that thread. Is there a simple way to tell if the chicks I got at the show in Bloomington were a scam and just EE or if they are truly Ameraucna chicks. After reading some of that thread I almost feel as if posting pictures of my chicks will automatically make them EE since I can't say if the seller is not one of their breeders. I did not get the seller's full name but i think he said he was from TN.

Honestly If I was scammed, I'm so over it. At this point I'm thinking of raising all of the chicks till they are laying and then selling of the extras. By then I would know for sure the egg color and such. Also once they are full grown I should be able to get back the chick cost but not the feed cost. Since I spent a lot on the chicks as a group I would not want to turn around and sell them for $2 each.

Lost by 32 cents lol. Either my internet is acting really slow or the iOS7 really slowed down my iPad. It took forever for it to accept my bid, but oh well. It was fun and exciting.

next time you need to toss out a million dollar bid about 2 minutes before the auction ends. Then when you win if the price ends up being sky high it was a bidding error and you can calmly retract the bid. I have never done this but I have read of it. I'm thinking it works one and only one time.

Maybe he will list more eggs :)

We also don't have cable or satellite. Although the thought of living without internet access makes me ill..

If we watch tv, it is usually Hulu Plus. We also have iTunes, and have watched shows on there too. Chicken TV is more fun for me....

Didn't go on the Tour de Coops in Indy today, but did drop by Agrarian (urban chicken store). They had a lot of cute, but expensive stuff. There was a choice of organic feeds, but I couldn't justify the cost. If I was feeding a chicken or 5, I would think about it. But I exceeded 5 chickens just reading the MCMM hatchery add. I think it is awesome though that there are enough chicken folk in the Indy area to support a store like that. They said business was going well, and sponsoring the Tour De Coops was a big bonus for them. They also had some local bee keepers set up outside showing off their hives and supplies. That kept my partner happy talking about his bees.

You would be surprised how many urban bee keepers there are too.

There are lotss of ways to tell. If you want can list different ways or you can send me a pic and i can tell you. which ever way. Did they say what color variety they are?

Also had a funny story this week. I was out checking the chickens just before dark, and found a late egg that one of the girls had left. I grabbed it, then noticed the turkeys had gotten the lid off the chicken scratch and were going to town. So without thinking, I stuck the egg in my pocket and ran over to get them out of there.

It goes without saying that when I went in the house, I flopped down on the couch. A few minutes later I get up and my hand brushes my shorts and I'm like 'why is my leg wet?....awwwwwww oops (translated to be family friendly
big_smile.png
)'.

So I go into work the next morning and I'm telling the story to some of my friends, and the one of them who also has chickens goes 'Yeah, I hate it when that happens. You know it's a bad idea, but you tell yourself that you will remember. But you never do.' The rest of our co-workers looked at us like we were from a different planet. But I'm starting to get used to that look.....

. This store sounds pretty cool - is it in broad ripple?

I didn't realize you guys had bees! That's on my list of things to try some day. It intimidates me a bit... But on the list nonetheless.
