Inexpensive leg (identification) bands

I've got to re-open this thread, I need help figuring out inexpensive leg bands!

Has anyone tried anything like pipe cleaners or twisty/bread ties??

Both of these are extremely cheap and come in a wide array of colors. They're also easily cut by scissors and replaced as the chicken grows. I'm just a little concerned that I might be missing some potential danger with these bands.
