My buff orpington hurt her toe about 2 weeks ago now. Well she has been separated from everyone with food and water. Recently it is now swollen. She was starting to walk on it and appeared to be getting better but it is now swollen and she hardly putsurprising any weight on it.

1. What is the best over the counter antibiotic I can get her? There aren't vets in my area for a chicken. Pen pro? Does a feed store like blue seal sell it?

Please help!!!! Thank you!!!

Toe injuries on chickens self-correct. They auto-amputate. It appears this is what's happening to your hen's toe. The chicken's immune system cuts off circulation to the infection and builds a wall of tissue behind it so the infection is localized. In due time, the toe dies and falls off. Then the swelling subsides, and the chicken goes on with life.

She appears to be pecking at the toe and that indicates it's causing her considerable pain. You can alleviate some of the pain with a baby aspirin (81 grain) twice a day.
