As for Bell, he clearly has no idea what he's talking about. Despite living in the South, and having a lot of connections in redneckville, I've personally met one racist in my entire life. I am truly sick of hearing that we owe it to African-Americans to give them special attention as compensation for the long-past evil of slavery and the now mostly imaginary "discrimination."
Sadly, it seems that we still have in our society people that are prisoners of their own mind. They cannot get over being born with a non white skin. The past is the past, we live in the here and now. Who is white and who is black? Our society is fast approaching a population that is neither here nor there.
Ever once in a while, some politician just for political advantage will come along and peel of that old scab of racism. We need to let that finally heal.
