My brush is observation and you are presumptuous about my lumping all them together. Education is free in this country and with that there are no excuses for anyone as all have that available. The reality is the welfare generations won't work and they are told why they cannot make it is because they are at a disadvantage because they are a different color, sex, wrong part of town bla bla bla but someone that is taught that hard work, determination, possibility of failure perseverance and that it is plain tough out there regardless of where or what their circumstances are do succeed and in turn teach their children that they can make it. What is wrong with walking to work by the way? ride a bike or heaven forbid carpool as most house cleaners can afford a car. And I have wore them shoes before I was born into them and I earned what I have and the mindset that the have nots owe the lazy is something that if left to it's device will implode as the non working will surely surpass the working. If someone fully able to work cannot make it in this country with all the opportunities available to them that exist today well maybe they should be put in a camp and taken care of that way and just maybe they will change their mind and work like everyone else. It is a dog eat dog world out there and a good parent should teach their kids among other things to take care of yourself first, there are no shortages or martyrs and the eutopia you seem to want just doesn't exist.

One only need look to history, our great country did it's best out of the great depression, the playing field was leveled for the most part in the 30's and 60 to 70 % unemployment (real unemployment) the government was broke, wall street was broke everyone mostly was broke and we are not there yet because we just print more money, well china is not going to accept IOU's forever I believe some time in my life there will be an end to our way of life pertaining to the government and it will be bad. Our poor children will inherit our problems that we created and hopefully they can afford them.

People that are hungry will either work or steal I for one can take care of both by putting them to work or dealing with thieves as they should be dealt with. No one has or will starve to death in this country... EVER they may get hungry but they will not die heck my son's school feeds breakfast and lunch to any that asks for it, that starve the poor is an old lame argument that carries no water. Some people are just lazy, I drove by the highway repair crew today they are paving and the actual workers are subcontract private company workers they were in ages from 60 down to maybe the low 20's they all were fit and trim and working but the only one that was morbidly obese and standing around was the ODOT guy (Oregon Dept. Of Transportation) now you tell me what am I suppposed to think when I see that?

It's a darn good thing they have those food stamps. Puts some food in their stomachs even if it isn't much. The number of people on food stamps is just reflective of the high unemployment rates. If I was Obama I would be proud of that title. Defending the food stamp program against being cut by the tea party is no easy task. There's not really much else he can do.

No not surprised at all by that figure. I am surprised that we pay the oil companies who have record profits 4 billion a year to fatten their bottom line. Are you surprised at that?

Governments function is to protect and help the people as well as maintain the commons. Food stamps are in there. Helping oil companies is not.

Rufus you make the most sense of everyone o here for the most part. Don't agree with everything you say, but you make some very good observations.

Our jobs are going to Asia because of the incredibly cheap, close to slave labor force. They are slowly becoming organized though and one day you will see riots as they try to create unions and improve their conditions. Around that time we will see jobs returning here. It's all just going to be a big realignment in our way of living. people with skills that can be done by most anyone such as the jobs that the undocumented immigrants have been doing, will be living at the same level as the undocumented immigrants currently are. Factory jobs will pay wages that will barely keep a person alive with no benefits.

The wealth is indeed transitory. Wealthy people usually have homes in at least 2 continents. They deal with business on an international scale and don't really have any allegiance to America. That's the reason they really don't care about what happens to America. That is also the reason I don't understand the allegiance that so many conservatives (which there are an unusually high amount of on this forum) have to wealthy people. They profit hugely from the commons and the atmosphere provided by the US. Yet so many people feel they should pay the same level of tax as the lower 98% do. Why? The average tax burden that people in the top 2% pay is 16% after deductions. A married couple making over 70k with no house or kids pays around 23%. Why is that? Could it truly be that people think they may be in that upper 2% some day and they won't want to pay a fair amount when they are there?

The wealthy don't provide jobs. When they are given tax breaks and are allowed to sell inferior products to increase their bottom line, they invest their money in overseas factories and labor. Once again because they would rather get that extra penny profit than help out the people that put them where they are.

I tend to agree that we have allowed people to get too used to the free hand outs. If a person is on welfare they should be required to apply for jobs and accept anything they are capable of doing. That would give incentive to locate something better. Food stamps should be much better controlled than they are. The dems give too much and the pubs try not to give anything. There has to be a middle ground. Churches are not the answer Q. Regulations are needed. They need to be better thought out and easier to change when it is determined that what they are doing is stupid. Taxes are a fact of life. We actually have pretty low taxes in America. There's too many big businesses making record profits and not paying any taxes at all for me to accept the BS about high corporate taxes. I see a lot of problems with regulations and taxes on small businesses but not on big ones.

We don't need less regulations and taxes. We need campaign finance reform. We need our representatives to represent us instead of corporate America.

BTW Chickened. Gas prices are controlled by demand. The money we pay the oil companies doesn't do a thing to bring gas prices down. They would like you to think it does. What Obama had for breakfast has more effect than the money we pay oil companies to raise their bottom line. It does have a big effect on campaign contributions though.

Sounds like he may be spending some of his money on a lawyer. Do you really believe someone at the food stamp place told him he could continue using the card after he won that money? I'm not sure how often they review eligibility for food stamps. probably once every 6 months. They probably also depend on the person telling the truth. There's a very good chance the food stamp place was not aware that he had won that money if it wasn't on his 2010 taxes. I know you're trying to show ineptitude but it isn't working. The rag you quoted is counting on people to not think it through.

The wealthy don't provide jobs.

All my employers have been wealthy. Never got a job from someone hanging out in Section 8 housing....
