I am not saying you personally but I have done work in those houses and can tell you the majority of them are destroyed by the tenants, used for meth labs and the folks that get them do not take care of them because they do not have to fix them the "government" does. You should be proud of your accomplishment and I would be curios to hear your reason for bettering yourself was it the free stuff or the lack of?

I am in Law enforcement and I can't tell you how many "families" in the section 8 housing I go to now some families are single mom's (remember now I have been there and done that the single mom thing) I go take a report for various different things....these are 18-25yr old male and female some times both when i get to the job no one works! I worked when i was a single mom I paid my bills took responsibility....to many people think they are owed or someone else can do it...I have an uncle w/ 2 girls in school (single dad) who has sit on his butt and never worked while his girls are in 2nd and 1st grade with litterally fat bellies from the food and money from the govt...he doesn't even buy their christmas...that's what that angel tree in WalMart is for....now i know their are familes that need help during that time and believe me in our city our FOP does a shop with a cop thing but they are looked into wheather or not they actually need help.....I have a neighbor that has money in the bank from inheiratance like 1/2 a mill but still goes to where they hand out free food or clothes for their kids....or the help on needing their electricity bill paid...these are the people that infuriate me...ok off my soap box

thats OK it is easy to get fed up when you are in constant contact with it,Yea probably 90% of the ones I am around are in section 8 housing I lived in sec 8 for a coupla years I got working and making too much money and got kicked out LOLOL it is funny most folks do not realize that section 8 is not just all crazy folks that live there it is mostly just low income housing we are finally tearing down a lot of it here it is just too expensive to bring it up to code it is torn up so badly.

My husband worked for a contractor that fixed those houses too. You would not believe the damage.

The system is broken. I wish there was a no questions asked day labor/community service available in every community. I'd also rather have the lazy on food stamps then out mugging and stealing. But I also wonder if the system is set up to get as many as they can under their care so they can exercise greater control over the masses. I think there are some parlor tricks going on with the Tax/subsidy system that keeps things from being more balanced and natural. I think that the shepherd (government) is working for the wolf pack (big businesses).

You could very well be right, Our system is teaching our youth to be these little green citizens using the chicken little sky is falling mentality to dummy down our kids to the idea that the world will collapse it they don't at all cost save the earth and to hell with the real things that they need to stand on their own and that hard work is how you get ahead and that working is far better than begging. Look at the people on the on ramps they can manage to make it there and fight for their spot but cannot get a job/ give me a break call and treat them for what they are bums, leeches or whatever your label on them is but if they are able to work tell them no work no food, as for the true needy yes give them a hand UP not a hand OUT. If given the chance I think the tea party in this regard are on the right track even though they are politicians. The ones that are out stealing that are on assistance are now given a free ride all over Portland with public financed mass transit so they are not cofined to thier own neighborhood they can now ride for free to other areas and steal. Our mass transit is unsafe and crime near the lines has gone way up after the trams are in a new area. The very people they were supposed to help are afraid to ride them because they get robbed and/or beat up.

Yep, they should just put them all in concentration camps or something. At the very least build a wall around their neighborhoods. Heaven forbid they ride the bus to their job cleaning someones house on the other side of town.

Where do you find your brushes that you paint all the people with that are on assistance? I didn't know they made them that wide. Watch out. Karma will get you and you'll be wearing those shoes someday.

At least our system is teaching the kids something useful. Seems like a lot of parents are just teaching them the fine art of me 1st. All the hard work in the world won't do any good if you can't breathe.

Tea party members think that the situation can be corrected. I on the other hand think the situation has gone too far. Where and how it will end is a mystery to me, however my gut instinct tells me it will not be pleasant.

Remember Joseph Stalin's full employment program. He shipped the social parasites to Central Asia to dig a canal. Very few survived.

A month or so ago, the AARP magazine published an article on the food stamp program. It was a real eye opener.

I think that the problem is not that we cared too little for the poor, but that we cared too much. Now we have such a large portion of our population hooked on the opium of social welfare that society cannot sustain these programs.

Wealth is transitory. It flees areas of oppression, heavy taxation and excessive regulation. Right now, it is fleeing Western Europe and North America. The Middle East and Asia are gaining in economic strength. Along with the money, jobs are going also. Jobs always follow capital.

God save us from government and good intentions.

I did not realize it was section 8 when I moved in they needed some tokens I was one of them. I stayed there like 2-3 years, when we moved in my wife was the only one working the next day I went back to work . I have a few certifications and licenses I am quiet employable and have been this way for quiet some time one of the few recession proof occupations that there is. Since 1975 I have repaired refrigeration systems in food stores and operated an nuisance animal control service since about 1983 I just got rid of a coupla fox for a lady last week I am replacing compressors in a coupla walkin refrigerators this week.

And there lies the problem.

Dunkopf, food stamps seem like a good thing, but they are only addressing the symptoms, not the disease. If the government were not doing so much taxing and regulating, there would be far more jobs, and people would generally be more prosperous. Those who were unemployed could count on charitable organizations, or churches, or private citizens to help them along. As it is, the government CAUSES a problem - in this case, unemployment - then corrects a single derivative problem, and their involvement produces still more problems, and it continues ad infinitum.

Nothing is more likely to attract government funding than failure.

Same goes for Social Security, Medicare, welfare, etc. They all address a single symptom, while ignoring the root cause and producing a host of brand new problems.
