Injured Duck

Active ingredient: Permethrin 0.50%. Other ingredients: (3-phenoxyphenyl) Methyl (+/-) cis/tran 3-(2,2-dichloroethenyl) -2,2-diemethlycyclopropanecarboxylate (cis/trans ratio: min 35% (+/-) cis and max 65% (+/- trans.)

And I can not pronounce any of those big words its what the can said.
He doesn't seem sick and the wound is looking a lot better than it did.

You need to look him over closely. Do not assume there are no maggots. You must find them and get them out of his body right away today. Give him another bath, I think two baths a day at least.

Are there maggots or not? If there are, rinse them off, put some hydrogen peroxide over where they are or might be, use something that squirts like a spray bottle to knock them off.

Alright will do.
Today he's shaking is that from the pain or still in shock..? And can ducks mourn? He hasn't been eating a whole lot, tossed some scratch next to him and he nibbled at it. And there is no longer a nasty smell coming from him, and hes quacking alittle bit more if I go near him, which is the normal..

Permethrin is fairly safe they say, but i am always leary of using chemicals. I agree with ASmiga those maggots can get inside his body and do serious damage, you need to stay on top of it. Shaking makes me concerned, he may need something in the electrolyte/vitamin department put into his water. they have stuff like that at the feed stores pretty inexpensive. And of course ducks mourn he knows his flock mates aren't with him and he survived a horendous attack, it's going to take time to recover. Poor guy.

I have to wait for my mom to get up.. 'cause my brother wont help me at all to lift feathers or hold him so I can look. And the mourning.. Would that be the 'cause of him not wanting to eat much other than pain, and I am giving him Electrolyte unflavored Pedialyte mixed with his Antibiotic. Also need to spray him down again.. But wouldn't the spray absorb into his muscles and tissue and stuff..? And blood stream with him preening, and is it normal for his poop to be green? And I flush him down twice a day with saline before I spray him.

Green poop is from not eating much, try wetting his feed with a little warm water, that may intice him to eat. and with the injury he has I'm sure he is in pain too. Maybe try wraping him in a towel that way you might be able to look him over little by little for maggots. did you see maggots on him since his injury? and he will probably get some internally with his preening. if your going to use this spray then thats something you'll have to take into consideration, look this spray up on line and read what all it says about it.

My mother worked for a vet and she said keep him clean, keep him away from fies and if infection occurs take home to a vet. Any vet will give you antibiotics, all you have to do is pay for an office visit. If he is bleeding, just remember that birds don't clot. If bleeding, flour or corn starch will help clotting.

Poor guy is such a fighter! Good luck!

First day he wasn't bleeding much. Didn't see anything squirming. But ill have my mom help me alittle more. He's in the bath splashing around. Put saline on it using the syringe and no vets here that'll. Do anything for birds. And he's on antibiotics. Also what can I do for the bone that is where the skin for the wing was. Will flesh grow back over the bone or what..?

The guy at the feed store said it will be alright to use on him. And he doesn't seem to be sick. And he's also preening at the spray so I think that'd kill any maggot internally if there is any. He got them on day two I think.. we were puting neosporine on him and I yelled don't don't we need a bath and salt water and peroxide which we used all of. Cause we didn't have a syringe at the time. He's improving though. Day by day. He's also going under the water to pull the water over his back which he hasn't done since before the injury

Please keep us updated on his progress, sounds like he's coming along.
