can you see any flesh growing over the bone? that sounds serious to me something a vet needs to look at. or just keep doing what your doing and since he seems to be coming out of the shock maybe he'll recover completely. I hope he does.I will. But what do I do about the bone that has no flesh or meat on it and all the meat that was hanging fell off or got eatin by the maggots
I really don't know if flesh will grow back, I hope it does because I'd think you'd always have to worry about infection if the bone stayed revealed. Your doing all you can for him and keeping him clean as possible keeping flies off of the wound and making sure no maggots are inside of his body [very important] keeping his wound with some kind of antibiotic salve or spray is about all you can do now and just wait and see how he heals. A wound that severe isn't going to heal fast it's going to take time and alot of care. You have been doing a good job.I see raw bone. And there's no vet that'll take ducks we tried and can't aford a vet.. will flesh grow back over it.. or will it be fine like it is if the open wounds close. He just had a while long bath he did a lot of preening. Pulled some feathers out of it. Kind of looks like he's trying to grow some shoots
Actually it would probably be better to keep it open less chance of bacteria getting into it with a bandage that would get wet. just keep spraying him to keep the flies and bugs out. Ducks/chickens/geese are tough, it's amazing what they can pull through from.I believe he'll pull through, I have faith in him. I've heard of worse injuries and the duck or chicken pulling through. Once the woundis healed should I put something like gauze andd find a water proof vet wrap to put over the area to keep bugs and stuff away from it.
