Aww...that's too bad. Maybe he got in a fight with your other males? Since he was feeling better he may have decided to challenge? One other thought, I've read when using antibiotic ointment to make sure it isn't the kind with the pain reliever in it as it can cause some harm. Sorry you lost him.

He was very submissive for a rooster. The only other adult rooster in the bunch was pretty young and did bug him a little, but never really hurt him. No mark or missing feathers or anything. Ointment had no pain reliever and was bandaged while healing. He healed up so nicely, I just dont get it. :-(

Thank you all for your condolences. We will be looking for a small assortment of hatching eggs soon to finish off my sons little flock that way they are all young and healthy.. Hopefully will get another Dominique along with the others were hopping to add (blue egg layer, speckled sussex, something laced, something polish, and 2 others. Still researching gentleness). Trying for all easily identified so the lil guy can name them. It is a sad loss, but a learning experience in reference to adopting older birds.
