Hey All! My first post here, but I have been following this amazing site and getting some very useful info since becoming a chicken owner just over a year ago.

So I have a little bit of a situation. We have 3 hens in our Lavender Orphington brood, they are about 1.5 years old. One of the hens had the curled foot, and we have kept her out of the coop for about 4ish weeks. Once we determined it was not merkes, and we treated her and now she can walk again we would like to reintroduce her to the two other hens. She has been on the outer run of our coop for the last two weeks, (using a open dog create) as optional shelter, and then she has been put in our basement at night. So she has been around the other two all day for a week, just separated. I did try putting her in the pen day two, but the top hen just pecked her... poor girl, and rookie mistake by me.

So I am wondering what I should do. I have the opportunity to get two new pullets, and I have Lilly our outcast, should intro them all at the same time, maybe to deflect the attention away from Lilly? Or should I wait, and add the other two once Lilly is added on her own?

Any advice welcome, and thank you in advance.

Hey WestCoastFam :frow Welcome!

Great news that your girl did not have Marek's and has made a full recovery.

I use the 'look but not touch' method for integration.

☺️ Thank you, and I appreciate the links. So useful!

Ps. Love your “water pistol” method. My husband and I had a good chuckle over that one.

Tee hee, yeah, the water pistol works well! You can get to the stage that you only have to pick it up and they give you that 'OK, I will stop it' look and I swear you can hear them muttering under their breath as they waddle off :p

Today was good. It worked out well for them. I let them free range in the yard together. Luckly a neighbor was removing some trees so there was quite a bit of noise and a distraction for the Alpha hen. I had my water pistol ready!! :) I put her crate in the run, and she was in and out of there with the other two staying close. They are traveling in a pack, which I think is a good sign, and there is no growling. So they spent most of the after noon together and while I was around no issues. When it was bed time, the recovering hen I think forgot routine, and the Alpha was pacing around her to get up in the coop, which she finally did. She is not on the perch with the other two, which worries me a little, just because she has been warm and cozy in the house over nights.

Do you think there will be a issue with the temp change and her body heat if she is not cuddled up with the others??
