I'm curious about raising meat birds over the winter, as was the person from KY. Here in the Seattle area the winter days are in the 40s. Is that too cold to raise meat birds?

We'll probably wait until spring anyway, but it's interesting to know for future reference.​

You could set up a space for them back where you cleared that blackberry. Tell you neighbor you'll give them a couple birds if you can use the space!

i'm sure you can raise your meat birds in the fall/winter. although we (texas) don't get as cold as you do, but most of the livestock shows around here occur late winter (jan-feb), which means they are raising those 8 week old birds from nov-dec. your main concern for raising them in winter is to keep the temperature constant in your coop. if it's too cold, they will huddle and suffocate. if the temperature fluctuates too quickly, they are not capable of adjusting their body temps like normal chickens and so the possibility of them dying is greater.

back to topic...well, kind of...i'm so sad now. i can't buy those cocktail carrots anymore!

okay, really back to topic. i have noticed that my chickens have smell (like chicken), whereas the chickens i've bought from the store do not.

Thats disgusting, I think next spring we will be looking into some conish x's. I do not want to eat pool water chicken!!
